This event is known as The Liberation, or Massacre, of Wharftown. This was the culmination of months of plotting and planning on the part of the Wharftown Liberation Movement, led by Herial Ghalen, Magil Mahr, and Kathele Se'Lhane.
Charging the Thayvian-headed Leadership of Wharftown with the desecration of the Temple of Selune, support of Piracy, the illegal removal of Wharftown government officials and general corruption, the Liberation Movement gathered many supporters (they claim to have had support from every non-evil city and organization on the island, Wharftown itself included) to remove the Red Wizards from Wharftown. The details of the resulting battle are greatly varied, and usually grossly exaggerated, depending on who one asks. Those that sympathize with the Thayvian Leadership often make the Liberation 'mob' out to be brutal butchers and conquerers. Those who support the actions of the Liberation 'army' tend to glorify them as heros and, as expected, liberators.
Regardless of whatever historian is asked, there are a few details that are concretely undebatable: the mob/army entered Wharftown through the Pass of Despair Gate, punched through a militia blockade, proceeded on to the Temple to remove the Kossunite furnishings and decorations, and then occupied the town. The Temple was restored, any townsfolk injured or killed by errant magic or cruelly opportunistic blades were restored to life and healed, and the Thayvian Government was deposed. The Wharftown Militia was decimated, and refused to return to life. A new, all-female militia was formed shortly afterwards that continues to patrol and guard the town to this day. The Liberation/Massacre/Cleansing/Butchery of Wharftown remains as one of the most controversial moments in the entire history of Wharftown, altering the face of the town and shaping the actions and thoughts of citizens and leaders in the town for generations to come.
