"The Seasonal Planets"

By S. Hlaemitore

1st Edition, printed 68 AR

Introduction

There are four visible planets in Toril's night skies; at different times of the year, they circle closer to Toril, and at other times, sink back into the glimmering stars. Some govern the tides and rains, whilst others hark the sun to scour the lands. Beyond the four that are visible from the mortal realm, there are three more planets set further out. Rather than being of elements, they hold sway over aspects of the balance. This book will describe the planets, their periods of dominion, and their affinity to divine powers.

The Seven Planets

Anadia, The Red Planet

Dominion: Hammer and Alturiak (Midwinter)

This is the red planet of fire and fury, often associated with Kossuth, or the elven battle gods: Sheverash, Solonor, and Corellon Larethian. The planet governs destruction, war, and violence. Naturally, Anadia's dominion in the skies is a prime time to march into battle, and any war parties or raids will have a greater success. Logic facilitates this, as during the dead of winter, there are no fields to till and sow, and no harvest to reap.

Coliar, The Misty Realm

Dominion: Ches and Tarsakh (Winter's End)

This is the blue planet of misty tides, often associated with Akadi, or the elven gods of air and trickery: Erevan Ilesere and Aerdrie Faenya. The planet governs air, flight, travel, trickery, and communication. Coliar's dominion in the skies is a good time for political agreements and migration, as the messenger birds may once again fly freely, and the frost melts away from travelling routes.

Karpri, The Stormy Sea

Dominion: Tarsakh and Mirtul (The Spring Rains)

This is the blue planet of surging seas, and is often associated with Istishia, or the elven gods of sea and nature, Deep Sashelas and Rillifane Rallathil. This planet governs storms, water, clarity of mind, and destruction for the seeds of rebirth. Karpri's dominion is a good time to till the fields, pray for rain, improve crop irrigation systems, and a good time to start anew in general.

Garden, The Green Planet

Dominion: Kythorn (High Spring)

This is a very small green planet, thought to be covered with rolling fields of grass and floral blooms. It is often associated with Chauntea and Shiallia, or the elven mother of fertility, Angharaddh. This planet governs the growth of crops, protection, expansion, prosperity, fertility, and wisdom. Garden's dominion is a good time to think about expanding one's family, and a fine time to tend the growing gardens and crops. It is also a good time of the year for trade agreements.

Glyth, The Grey Planet

Dominion: Flamerule and Eleasias (High Summer)

This is a small grey planet, highlighted by a glimmering golden ring. It is associated with Sune, and the elven goddess of love, Hanali Celanil. This planet governs beauty, love, passion, and relationships. Glyth's dominion is an excellent time for romantic pursuits and marriage proposals. It is also a good time for working in tradescrafts while the crops are growing.

Chandos, The Brown Planet

Dominion: Eleint and Marpenoth (Autumntide)

This planet is of brown materia, much like cracked mud and silt, and is often associated with Grumbar or the elven god of time, Labelas Enoreth. This planet governs earth, time, limitation, and discipline. Chandos' dominion is a good time to pray for a bountiful harvest, work hard in the fields, train for a military profession, and plan ahead for the next year. It is also a good time for tribes and village communities alike to hunt game, as the woods will be teeming.

H'Catha, The Diamond Planet

Dominion: Uktar and Nightal (The Shortening Days)

This planet is said to be made from crystals, and is associated with Mystra, and sometimes Sehanine Moonbow. This planet governs knowledge, magic, transformation, change, evolution, and revolution. During H'Catha's dominion, scholarly studies will see more progress with the blessings of Lady Magic. It is also a time of prophecies, religious ceremonies, and contemplation.
