[Written by Nahal Azyen, a wandering historian, Nightal 127 AR.]
Ghestaldt Blimth, Thane of Brogendenstein, arrived on the Arelithian archipelago in Ches of year 119, from the nothern Dwarf stronghold of Citadel Adbar, on continental Faerun. Ghestaldt sought to grow the order of Gorm Gulthyn (the ever vigilant), to which he had dedicated his life, to which his father did before him. Soon after his arrival, he was informed by Thane Glanak of clan Ironhelm personally that the Dwarven ruler was being hunted by skilled assassins.
Glanak was attack on 28 Mirtol, 119. Ghestaldt was called to meet with the honoured Thane, but instead found then Dwarven ruler's charred body, and attempted to heal him of his wounds, which were beyond the healing of any Dwarf. The assassins had succeeded in their task. The final words of Thane Glanak to then Sentinel Ghestaldt were "Fuma'Vhid" - the name of his Dhaerrow assailants.
And so Thane Glanak of clan Ironhelm passed into memory and song on 1 Kythorn of year 119. He is remember for the well-deserved respect he earned among Samman of the Halls and outsider settlements alike, during his rule from 112 to 119 AR. He is remembered for his greatness and sure leadership of Brogendenstein.
In Flamerule of year 119, a vote was held to select a new Regent to succeed Glanak Ironhelm, from which Tabitha was elected shortly thereafter. Tabitha was deemed worthy, and bestowed the title of Thane by High Sonnlinor Broind of clan Keglighter and Elder Doili of clan Troff at the end of year 119. Thane Tabitha's years were noted as one of inactivity, and under her the Golden Halls grew quiet. This inactivity led to the resignation of it's Warden, Bardin of clan Ungorwegen.
In early 122, Ghestaldt Blimth informed Thane Tabitha of his intention to stand for leadership to be elected Regent. By the summer of 122, Thane Tabitha decided against standing for a re-election, and finally in Ches of 123 Ghestaldt of clan Blimth was elected as the new Regent of Brogendenstein. He was officially coronated as Thane by Elders Broind and Doili almost exactly a year later in year 124.
Notably, this period marked a tumultuous relationship with Guldorand. Thane Ghestaldt attempted to re-established ties with the eastern settlement after relations remained distant after it's release from the stranglehold of Banite dominance. The Dwarves of Brogendenstein did indeed, however, march to the defence of Guldorand during the second decade of the second century, both in defence against the Abyssal hordes and the Guild of Necromancy. But in the year 124, Thane Ghestaldt ended ties with Guldorand because of the Earldom's actions in signing a peace treaty with Sencliff, Wharftown, and the before mentioned necromantic Guild. Earl Rannos of Guldorand entered these discussions, unbeknownst to the Golden Halls, who have always stood opposite to the nefarious factions of the Isle. Guldorand sought forgiveness for their actions, and in the early months of year 127, the relationship had once more begun to mend.
Also under the guidance of the Thane, between the years 124 and 125, Brogendenstein undertook the lands of Bendir Dale as it's official vassal, as the fort sought a new and suitable Mayor for leadership. During this time, the Golden Halls acted as guardians and protectors of the Hin settlement, to ensure a smooth transition of power and leadership. Tensions rose and voices murmured on the possibility of Brogendenstein betraying this agreement to retain power of the Hin village, but in Elesias of year 125, Bendir had selected a new Mayor in Lyra Littleshadow and by decree of the Thane, Brogendenstein's hold on Bendir was relinquished as was his word and promise.
In Uktar of year 127, Ghestaldt announced to the Island the formation of the Coalition of Settlements, a treaty between Brogendenstein, Bendir Dale, Guldorand and Myon, to act in promoting virtue across the lands of Arelith, stem the actions of evil forces, and repel the Underdarkers. This idea was born in the Golden Halls, and the Dwarves under Thane Ghestaldt spearheaded the negotiation of the four northern domains. Other notable advocates of this new Coalition of virtue were Marshal Birgitta Swordhill of Bendir Dale, Maeralya Nithroel of Myon and Baron Eldwyn Leofricson of Guldorand.
And so, Brogendenstein continues under the diligent watch of Thane Ghestaldt, as he continues to stir the Golden Halls back to the period of stability seen in the days of Thane Glanak of clan Ironhelm and Gorann of clan Bloodletter before him. And as is the case with all leaders, with the passing of time, we will watch to see how the reign of Thane Ghestaldt is remembered in song, story and lore.
