When King Belrun Battlehammer ruled, the hall was maintained properly. Nothing was disregarded ~too~ much, and I would say that all Dwarves were content. However, after a time, Belrun began to disappear for weeks at a time, no one knowing exactly where he had gone. The dwarves were Popi Bleuleu, Demestus Bleuleu, Aatomas, Gulni Ironforge, and I, Norin StrongAxe at that time. We all did not know what to do when Belrun didn't show up for about two months. Most hall activities carried on, but we were on edge.
The kinsmen gradually drifted apart without the guidance of a king, and as everyone was thinking Belrun would return, no one took the throne. It was only until almost a year and a half later, when Belrun's long-lost wife, Grena Battlehammer, returned to the hall. It was rumored that she had been eaten by a snow wyrm, which she disregarded as a coverup for her traveling to Waterdeep. I was one of the first to meet her back, heard her tale of sea voyage, and showed her to my kinsmen. They did not accept her as Belrun's wife, but as an imposter.
She and I were able to persuade them, eventually, that she was indeed Belrun's wife. We all had a clan meeting, and decided that Grena would rule until Belrun came back. She was hesitant to take the throne at first, but when she grew comfortable with it, she ruled well, and worked with the nobles of the clan to improve the social order of things, and the structure of the hall. Somewhere in this time, I was forced away from the hall to make the pilgrimage all priests of Moradin take, and so I only have word of what happened next. Grena passed her rule to Barok, and then disappeared, or was killed.
Barok has ruled the hall since with neglect, even worse than when Belrun was in power. I have seen nothing of the old clan nobility, though I have heard that Gulni is on the mainland, training dwarves at his home clan hall. Also, from what I hear, Barok started a war with our old friends, the elves, over some bandits. They attacked him in Arelith Forest, so he slew them, and piked their heads outside our gates. The elves retaliated, and so a war ensued. I have heard from one source that Grena was killed during this war, but note that this is another rumor I have heard.
Barok is a worse king than Grena or Belrun, and has led our clan into a war against our allies which we have had for many years. He deserves to be stripped of his title and exiled.
